KeymasterAM started the 2012 New Music Thread and I ended up finding some of my favorite music of the year in there. Let’s keep it going in 2013.
If you recommend something it’s encouraged to include a link to Youtube, Spotify, or download it. You can embed a Youtube clip into a forum post really easily by surrounding the URL in video tags like this:
Here’s what I’ve found so far in 2012:
Toro y Moi – High Living
Big Toro y Moi fan, new album is great. Anything in Return on Spotify
A$AP Rocky – Suddenly
I had a hard time picking a favorite song off this album it’s so good. Here’s a link to check out the album, his first: LONG.LIVE.A$AP on Spotify
Local Natives – Hummingbird
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Z9JQUNmAQ
Not on Spotify yet, apparently. The new album is called Hummingbird.

ModeratorDefinitely keeping an eye on Thom Yorke’s ‘Atoms For Peace’ project this year. Already been making some great tracks/remixes with some crazy co-labs happening.
Download links for each track off the album are available in the description.

ParticipantIf you liked Andy Weatherall’s “Masterpiece” mix for MoS (I certainly did) then you might dig his recent collaboration under the name The Asphodells.
The new album is called Ruled By Passion, Destroyed By Lust (will there be a better title this year!??)

Participanthmm Toro y Moi is playing in my current city alongside wild belle and dog bite this friday…i think that’ll be a fun show to go to before I head to China

ParticipantLately Ive been banging this heavy:

Be advised: this mixtape dwells on drug use a lot, so don’t expect conscious hip hop here. That being said, the beats dope, and the raps are snapping.
Standout tracks are:
Tanqueray
My 3Rd Cuzzin
A Bird

KeymasterQuote:hmm Toro y Moi is playing in my current city alongsideNever seen him live, but I would definitely go if I had the opportunity. You must be in a major city, he is an in-demand act right now for sure. The new album is good.
I hadn’t heard Wild Belle or Dog Bite but they both sound pretty good too. If only we have live performances like that in Chengdu… the only thing we have to look forward to in 2013 that I know of is Madlib next month.

Quote:the only thing we have to look forward to in 2013 that I know of is Madlib next month. This Will Destroy You are playing at the little bar early March. Should be good. A couple of big things lined up for April too.

ParticipantDid Cleveland’s experimental post-punk act, Peru Ubu, get you controversially shaking your hips with the 1978 hit Modern Dance?
Well. Apparently lead man David Thomas is still at it in the recently released Lady from Shanghai. Aptly named to catch the attention of any Chinese expat. Not half bad either.
I’d link it or something somehow, but I think those here that have the interest know the ways of where to find it.

Keymasterk-os – Spraying My Pen
Never heard of this rapper before, k-os from Toronto. The other features on this track are Canadian also. Good album overall, titled BLack on BLonde.
Quote:been getting into Keys n Krates recently, they released a new EP a few weeks agoNice!! New trap. I like that Clique remix.
Quote:NIN “Pretty Hate Machine”, Mars Volta ‘Amputecture”I listened to Mars Volta albums but never got into them. I think they’re a lot better live. Never seen them but I saw At the Drive In and they were great live.
As far as NIN, that’s one show that I deeply regret never seeing live. One of my friends in SF is a huge NIN fan and has seen them many times. He showed me some HD concert footage when I was in the city last year and the show was jaw dropping. Insane stage setup and presence. Trent Reznor’s new band How to Destroy Angels is playing at Coachella this year.
