Buying bus tickets

Holidays this week, this usually means huge crowds at tourist sites.

Question is…can anyone buy bus tickets in advance like they can with train tickets, or do they need to camp outside the bus station like a gaming fanatic at a console release?

If they can be bought in advance, can it be done from any station or does it need to be the departure station?

FYI,

Tickets can be bought in advance because of holidays. But only for buses leaving before 10am. Anything after 10am must be bought on the day.
