ParticipantHey guys,
I am wondering if anyone has any experience buying items from Amazon not from China? Everyone knows prices for certain goods are quite expensive in China and compared to Amazon say.. US, things are relatively cheap.
One option that i will be trying soon is this:
Nothing expensive, probably just some Reese’s peanut butter cup (a few pounds mind you) to do a test run. Shipping to Chengdu is about 200 RMB for 4-5lbs or something. I do not read Chinese, so it is quite hard for me.
The average length in time is one month. Not bad for hard to find items.
Anyone have any exp with this firm?

KeymasterAmazon US does ship to China, I have ordered from them before although not recently. Shipping is expensive and it takes a long time, I remember that. Here’s some more info on Amazon: Global Shipping
That was before I discovered Taobao though. Since then I haven’t found a need to order from Amazon in the US.
I just quickly searched for Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups on Taobao and found this and this. Get the cologne, Jerry…

ParticipantThe prices for shipping varies items to items if doing it through Amazon. Doing it from a proxy/warehouse, it tends to be cheaper because of lumping it all together. Also Taobao may not have certain items and if they do, they are jacked up (1.5-2x times the prices listed in the US).
As for the Reece’s, i tend to buy it by the pound, not ounces…. Rather taste it and not lick my forearm with the cologne…. Last year i spent 200 USD for Reece’s, 100 for shipping and 100 for 2 boxes of king size cups… I tend to go all out when i buy these types of things…
I will give this a shot and calculate my costs, from the proxy vs Amazon prices vs taobao if avail. From many locals, the proxy seems to be good, because they can buy ‘Lee or Levi’ jeans for low prices.. Vs buying it on taobao for 400RMB to 1k….

ParticipantThe process for receiving mail from the US, Amazon for example, is getting better but like you said is not quick. I’ve actually done research on the matter and it looks like the process will be streamlined in the years to come so you can enjoy your, uh pounds of chocolate tubby tubby, in a more timely manner

I visited a few dozen jiu-jitsu gyms last year while filming a documentary and made that joke a few times. I stopped making it quickly after they started demonstrating moves on me…

I doubt there are many advantages of buying computer parts from US amazon over getting them in China. It’s all made here anyways.

ParticipantParts are made here, but prices are still jacked up. I am looking to make a gaming rig and taobao prices are generally the lowest for these kind of things. Yet when i look at them, they fail in comparison to tigerdirect or amazon prices. Certain things i can get here, but big ticket items are better abroad…. If only they sold the items at fair prices instead of ‘tariff’ prices, it would be easier for me, same thing as iphones or ipads…. Made here but prices are jacked up because it’s considered ‘international item’ or some shit.
