Hi I can not believe I just found this website at last a good place to browse and meet folk. I have been in Chengdu for one year and have not met anyone to hang out with (bring on the violins or Chinese alternative)I have colleagues at work and the odd person who wants to converse in English but that’s it.

I have decided to stay here another year for my sins and will be locating to the south of the city, in the Gaoxin district soon, close to Auchan and Ikea.

Anyway I really need to meet other people to hang out with, get a drink, shoot the breeze etc otherwise I will go insane. I don’t know much about the city been to a few places but so far nothing that interesting although I adore exploring the unknown the amount of times I wander away and 10 hours later arrive home gives me something to tell the grankids about in the future.

I am hoping to meet people around that area when I move does anyone have any advice or suggestions and is that Gaoxin area any good? I don’t think I can do another year not meeting people and even though my colleagues push me to go to a bar, club, cafe I hate going alone I feel dumb going to those kind of places by myself, I would rather have company.

So anyone got any advice or suggestions, let me know.

    Cheers

    Diamond

When I first say this post I thought you were implying that you were looking for friends into sensory deprivation.

    Wikipedia defines:

    Quote:
Sensory deprivation or perceptual isolation[1] is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. Simple devices such as blindfolds or hoods and earmuffs can cut off sight and hearing respectively, while more complex devices can also cut off the sense of smell, touch, taste, thermoception (heat-sense), and ‘gravity’. Sensory deprivation has been used in various alternative medicines and in psychological experiments (e.g., see isolation tank).

Short-term sessions of sensory deprivation are described as relaxing and conducive to meditation, however, extended or forced sensory deprivation can result in extreme anxiety, hallucinations,[2] bizarre thoughts and depression.[3

    Me too Elias, hahah.

Me and some others on the forum hang out at Jah Bar on weekends, you’re welcome to join one day. Send me a PM if you want to meet up on a weekend.

What are you doing in the Gaoxin district, do you work in IT? I work just south of there, in Tianfu Software Park. It’s nice and developed down here but you’re a little removed from Chengdu proper – fortunately it’s just a 10 minute subway ride away.

OMG I did not word my heading well using the word ‘deprivation’! Well I laugh about it now. Just meant it as I have been deprived of meeting foreign faces and meeting new friends.

Where is the Jah Bar? I can not navigate the city but have a bicycle anyone interested in going cyling one day.

Elias thanks for that Wiki link on the ‘deprivation’ I actually found it quite interesting and will be more careful when using that word lol.

Jah Bar is across the street from the big boat, Wanli Hao (万里号). You can’t navigate Chengdu and you’ve been here for you a year? You should get on that! I’m sure you’ll be meeting people as you make your way around the city.
