Charlie. You wanna make it a monthly thing?
August 24, 2011 at 6:15 pm #13120CressMemberOh By the way. I’ll buy the dinner on those “group buy” websites, so I don’t garantee the quality and the taste of the food. FYI, I’ve had both good and bad experiences on “groupbuy” websites.
September 2, 2011 at 10:28 am #13217RayParticipantHow about street BBQ? Warm nights, plastic stool, a cheap bottle of beer, watch the street life, good conversation. That’s a perfect night out… Shao kao party?
September 2, 2011 at 10:49 pm #13224EricParticipantim hungry. i want food. i wanna come.
September 3, 2011 at 3:17 am #13225JustinParticipantI’m interested in a group meet up. I could do one of the options above or I’d also be down with ShaoKao. Lets make something happen!
September 3, 2011 at 5:53 am #13227RayParticipantSadly, it seems that there has been a recent crackdown on many of the authentic, street shao kao stalls (I’m talking the portable, fly-by-night mom and pop REAL shao kao places). My favorite a few months ago was the one outside Golden Apple kindergarten in Zhongbei. Two young guys had a pretty pro set up; a truck that folded out, lotsa stools and tables, cooler full of ICE (blissful). It was the closest to an LA-style food van that I’d seen. They seem to have disappeared (busted?) but it sometimes turned into a “Chinese impromptu block party”. One night was standing room only, about 40 people, 3 AM, great vibe. Strangers talking and sharing beers (one whole table of Chonqingers speaking local dialect). People, that kinda street culture is what I love; authentic, semi-legal, unpretentious, old school…..
September 3, 2011 at 7:21 am #13228BrendanModerator@Tigerkuma: I love those places too, there are a few I’ve been to that have a great vibe, and oftentimes great food. Incidentally the best of these I’ve seen so far have been in Chongqing, they just seem bigger and better there. Last time I was out there I had a huge feast at one of these, a few beers, and plenty of entertainment from the passing hustlers. Good times.
September 4, 2011 at 10:50 am #13234CressMemberI know a shaokao place. Best ShaoKao ever! Even my husband ( American) looooooves it. We should stop talking and make it happen! email me, cuz I dun check this site everyday…
September 4, 2011 at 4:19 pm #13238skinny pandaMemberTotally pro for shaokao party! Some beer, new peeps, good/burning spicy food, nice chat, plus street people watching; this sounds fabulous and much more fun than sitting at a local bar like a zombie. lol
Hey guys, shall we make the party happen either this Friday or Sat night? I’m in even just two or three more people are interested in going.
@cress – where is shao kao place you mentioned?
September 4, 2011 at 5:06 pm #13239CressMemberOK, ppl who want to go to THE shaokao place I mentioned on this coming Wednesday (Sep, 7) or Thursday(Sep, 8) nite, please call or txt me at 13880002058 or email me at [email protected].
The place is cross street from the back gate of the Chengdu CHinese Medicine Uni.
They have BIG pork ribs, American style BIG.
September 7, 2011 at 5:10 am #13265CharlieKeymasterI’m down to check it out tomorrow. Hopefully it won’t tear up my stomach, I haven’t had shao kao in months. Like Kuma said, I’ve noticed a dramatic reduction in the amount of shao kao vendors on the street. They used to be everywhere!
