    Hi all,

I’m currently teaching on Hainan Island and my contract’s up.  Haven’t decided what to do, yet (renew or move).

Have been offered a job at a high school in Jiang-yo, Mianyang.

Chengdu sounds cool.  Though, except for some tourist attractions, can’t find anything about Mianyang and especially Jiang-yo.

    What’s it like?

    Thanks

    Hi David,

I’m sure you know, but these are two different cities. Mianyang is actually a pretty large city – second largest in Sichuan Province after Chengdu, not counting Chongqing of course. It has a solid reputation as a good place to live. Pretty clean, friendly people, etc. It’s not too far from Chengdu, so visiting Chengdu on a weekend would be reasonable.

Jiangyou is farther removed. If you already speak Chinese well or if you’re interested in less foreign influence, Jiangyou might be better. If you have a choice between the two, I would choose Mianyang, since there are a handful of foreigners there already which is nice to have. I’m sure there are some in Jiangyou as well but their numbers must be very small.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to leave Hainan?

Thanks for that.  well, I live in a nice city called Danzhou in Hainan.

about 1 million people and except for an elderly couple (met once) who teach at a college outside the city, I’m the only westerner.

people are friendly and it’s been a good experience.

a friend of my family suggested the job in jiang-yo.

though, sounds like chengdu would be a better place to live.

Can anyone suggest a good teaching job in Chengdu.

    Thanks,

    David
