Hello all,
Just moved to Chengdu to Bangkok, Thailand.
Why?
I am married to a Chinese. We just had a baby & my wife wants to live in China for now (instead of Thailand). She chose Chengdu (as its less polluted compared to Beijing where she is from) & the housing is more affordable (compared to Xiamen where I worked in the past & the place we first met each other).
About Me
I am an IT consultant. I am from India. In the past, I have lived & worked in India, China, Thailand, Singapore & Bhutan. I have worked as a programmer, architect, project manager, trainer, IT Head, etc.
I am mostly into Microsoft technologies, like: .NET, C#, VB.NET, Share Point, SQL Server, BizTalk, etc. I have also done some mobile apps for iOS, Android & Windows Phone. I have got a Bachelors degree in Finance, a Masters in Comp Sc. & another Masters in Management.
I am not really in any hurry to find work. I own a business in Thailand (which is enough to support us). However, I am getting bored stiff sitting at home all day. I live near Ito Yokado.
It would be great to meet some like minded people (for starters).
I would also be interested to get involved in some interesting tech projects, startups, anything interesting, etc. Also, any pointers/tips for finding work would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I live in the South of Chengdu right by the Global Center. If you are IT this is the place to look. The Tianfu Software Park is teeming with all sorts of opportunity. My girlfriend works in the Software Park. Also, it is a developing part of Chengdu that the city has invested a lot of its efforts into creating a new city area for the years to come. There are plenty of startups here in the Gaoxin district as well.

I will surely check out the Software Park. Does the software park organise any regular events/meetups?
Also, is there any site where I should look for upcoming meet ups. I have checked Meetup.com. However, there is not much there. I think the site is hard to access from within China. Hence, not much content over there.
Are you in the IT/tech sector?
Thanks,
Varun

Check out the Beer Nest II, which is in Tongzilin. They frequently host events there, including a regular entrepreneurship meet up (which is the most popular Meetup.com event in Chengdu) and some others, like a ProtoHack meet up (Nov 15th) which is next week along with the entrepreneurship meet (Nov 18th).
I work in the software park and there are not a lot of social activities around here (strangely, considering the size and scale of what’s happening here).
