I will be arriving in Chengdu next week and am looking for an apartment with or without a roommate. The most I’d like to spend is 4000 RMB/month.

well, you can try some agencies to see if there is any apartment to rent, or you can try to stay in some international hostels first, and asks those workers how to rent houses in Chengdu, that can save some money maybe, and BTW, 4000 RMB/M is a lot.
