ParticipantIf you guys do meet up sometime let me know, I’ve had a Canon T2i for about 3 years now and while I’ve figured out how to use most of it I could always go for some tips. I’m hoping to get a new lens this spring so I could use some input!
Sigma 18-35f1.8 🙂

Participantthis is what i’ve been using for awhile but the 10-20mm is blurry at more than 10 feet, while the other is fine but i’d like a higher quality lens. I’ve been looking at :
http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-150-500mm-Telephoto-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001542X6E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392183385&sr=8-1&keywords=sigma+telephoto for a telephoto
and this for a general purpose:
Though checking out my amazon wishlist I do see that lens you recommended, I think I’ve had a few others suggest that to me. I might have to go with that.

yea, that depends, if you want a long lens, 18-35 is not fit for you, but if you want to do photos “artistically”, 18-35 is better, with a fixed f1.8 aperture is really good, and it got a very high score on DXO. mapped to full frame, it covered 28-56, that means you have an 28f1.8 35f1.8 50f1.8:)

ParticipantIf you guys ever come out to the Luodai area let me know. I’m a photog newb but love my Sony RX-100MK2. For me it was a good compromise between a DSLR and a compact P&S, but I could use some help with it.

KeymasterAnyone here use a wireless flash transceiver? I’ve been trying to get one to work with my Fuji X100 for a long time but haven’t gotten it yet (Canon 580EX Speedlight flash).

ParticipantI don’t have that. But I recently bought a Flash (Magnum) from computer city and it has some sensor that detects my cameras built in flash and syncs perfectly alright in a range of about 10 meters. your speedlite could actually have something like that?

Yeah, that is possible, but I’m looking to use a wireless transceiver if possible. I know that people have gotten Speedlight flashes working with Fuji cameras but I think the specific transceiver which I got (some Chinese brand) doesn’t work.

ParticipantI ‘m going to take royMo’s advice and get that Sigma f/1.8 lens. I had several other photography friends recommend it, but I am a little curious now where everyone gets their stuff? The price on Amazon was about 600rmb more than Taobao (4800 vs 4000-4200) but would I have even better luck going to the camera places inbetween Kehua and Renmin on 1st ring road?
I’m also really wanting to get it before Saturday……suggestions?

ParticipantHello, everybody!
I’m checking in as a new member who will be visiting as a tourist, 27 March – 9 April. If anyone has a photo walk in mind during that time, please let me know. <span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”>I’ve reached out to a few of you individually already.</span><span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”> </span>
<span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”> I’ve never been further west than California, so it will be a new experience. I am mostly interested in street / people photography. My Flickr site is http://www.flickr.com/photos/21226585@N02/?details=1</span>
Cheers, Olivier
Washington, D.C.P.S. My camera is a Nikon D700. I am debating what lenses to bring.

so lately seeing this reply. I dont know if you got 18-35 or not. I suggest you first taobao a chengdu local lenses shop at first, and then go there to take one directly. you may need some help from chinese people to do this

ParticipantI’m gonna go against the wind and say that discussing whether to use this lens for this, that lens for that is of not much use. You can get very far with the kit-lens. Get a feel for it and for what kind of photography you like. Then you’ll know what kind of other lenses you feel are missing. Don’t be limited by what kind of lens is supposedly suitable for the kind of photography you’re doing. Kit lenses are super useful, that’s why they come with the kit.

ParticipantI’ve had my kit lens for about 3 years…..stopped using it about a year into owning the camera. I had a couple Sigma lenses, one was a wide angle and the other was a telephoto so i needed something in between……..just got the lens today. Looks beautiful on the outside…….incredible quality underneath. If only I could find a (single) girl with the second part as well!
