MemberThis is going to be a reach, but I’m looking for help locating the name of a song I heard here in Chengdu. I couldn’t tell you any of the lyrics or what the song is about, and I vaguely remember how the tune goes. What I do know are the situations where I heard it (played in two different versions). First, I hear it somewhat regularly in taxis, usually coming from either the radio or those little TV screens. In that version, the words are sung by a large choir with an orchestra accompanying them. It sounds rather old, and rather “governmental” if you know what I mean. It could be a traditional song that got the “revolutionary treatment” in the 50’s and 60’s. But there is definitely communist flair to it. The second situation was in the Chengdu subway. This version was sung by a solo female lead (though it had the choir in the background). It was a music video where part of the time it shows the woman singing (she’s dressed in all red, of course). The rest of the time it shows photos of Chinese national guardsmen/military performing natural disaster relief work (moving sandbags, loading supplies into helicopters, carrying wounded people away from rubble piles, etc.) I think it may have to do with the Sichuan earthquakes (the video, not the song). Anyway, I’ve been looking up lists of famous Chinese songs and plugging them into Baidu mp3. But I haven’t had any luck. Like I said, this is a stretch, but if you have any idea what I’m talking about or the song name, I’d greatly appreciate it. I suppose I should mention, I’m looking for the song so I can learn the lyrics and write an acoustic guitar part for it. I play music here in Chengdu in my spare time, and it’s always great to play Chinese songs along with western music; the crowd really seems to appreciate it.
Cheers,
-Peter

Participantmaybe the first song is :
春天的故事
爱我中华
我的中国心
我和我的祖国
我爱你中国
红旗飘飘
走进新时代
好日子
没有共产党就没有新中国
解放区的天
The second:
生死不离
为爱撑起一片天
因为爱
相信爱
同心相连
心心相连
让爱满天下
爱的家园

MemberThanks for the lists. The thing is, the song is the same song both times, just sung a different way. I’ll check the ones you gave me though.

MemberI’ve checked all of those songs and unfortunately none of them are what I’m looking for. The search continues…

KeymasterIf you can record a clip of the song on your phone, I think it could be identified very quickly. I don’t know if that’s a possibility for you, but if you really want the song ID’d that might be worth a shot.

MemberI found it! Or rather, one of the Chinese teachers at my school found it for me. I had heard it in a taxi a few days ago, but the driver gave me the wrong name, but from that I was able to remember the tune. I whistled it to a teacher and she looked it up online. Here’s the video from the metro that I remember:

Quite a good song. Now I have to find the lyrics and write a guitar part for it.
