On previous trips to China, I’ve enjoyed getting massages while I’m there. Not at a spa, or the happy ending type massage, but rather the therapeutic type.
Is this a thing in Chengdu? Are there places to get a massage? What are the prices like? Any recommendations?
Most classic place I know is a pair of family run joints near tianfu square – one block south, at the end of the road..it’s next to a hostel (forget the name, classic place tho). On a map, it’s here:
These type of massage places are dotted all around the city, there are hundreds of them. The standard type of massage here is 推拿 and the sign you will commonly see outside of these places is 按摩 (massage) or 盲人按摩 (blind massage). The best places to find these are in neighborhoody, residential areas of the city. I live in Yulin and there are like 6 of these within walking distance, they are great. The cost is around 40 rmb per hour.
