Just stumbled upon AirPi. They successfully raised money for producing a shield for Raspberry Pi that measures all kinds of values related to weather and air quality. The campaign still got 9 days to go.

There’s also instructions for putting it together yourself instead of buying the pricy shield – http://airpi.es/participate.php
All those parts are probably available on Taobao for cheap.

Anyone ordered one? Know of anything similar? The interesting part is that the data is sent to an online service so you can see all the weather station’s data. Know of any kind of weather station like this in Chengdu other than the government and US embassy’s?

Seems like it doesn’t show AQI, but should be easy to calculate as long as it gathers the required parameters.

I might put one together later on.

This looks like a really cool project. Would go perfect with this. I wonder how accurate this is though, since you’re essentially competing (or offering an alternative to) government-provided figures. To my knowledge, no one other than the Chinese and US Government is providing information on pollution in Chengdu.

According to this: Many countries monitor ground-level ozone, particulates, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide and calculate air quality indices.
