I think it’s like $49 or $59 per year.
March 20, 2012 at 4:14 am #17967BrendanModeratorI’ve been using julyrush.com for a while now, and it’s been the most rock solid service I’ve encountered. And I’ve tried a few, including a usenet carrier. Julyrush service offers numerous global server locations, including 3 US based.
Although I haven’t tried StrongVPN, I’ve heard nothing but good from anyone who has.

March 20, 2012 at 5:02 am #17971VincentParticipantIn my opinion if you want a reliable and fast VPN server for China, there are none. Both StrongVPN and 12vpn have disconnected or failed to connect for tons of times in the past. If you’re just using it to browse Facebook and Twitter they should be fine though. I’ve been really pleased with 12vpn’s support. I’m not sure whether they still offer it but I pay $30/year for their 12vpn Lite plan (10gb/month), so I just use that whenever I want to check FB or YouTube. They have tons of servers as well.
I’ve been looking into renting a dedicated server or a VPS, and running my own private VPN from there with a static IP address. But I’m not sure if I will be able to set it up properly…
March 20, 2012 at 7:46 am #17972JerrySParticipantStrongVPN has many perks. You can change servers pending on the service you bought. The thing is when their service ‘fails,’ one just has to reroute their VPN. I average rerouting about once a month, that is due, from StrongVPN’s words,’ to the fact that China is able to find the encrypted VPN route. But there are many options within Strong and their customer service is good. From my exp. Its cheap too, compared to other VPN’s….
Worst thing about them… I get emails when ever i DL some torrent to stop due to some US law violation…
March 20, 2012 at 8:07 am #17974AMParticipantQuote:Worst thing about them… I get emails when ever i DL some torrent to stop due to some US law violation…hah, I got one of them a few weeks ago for downloading a UFC event. How many have they sent you? Now I tend to keep my vpn off when downloading cause the email said they’d cut off my service.
March 20, 2012 at 8:44 am #17975JerrySParticipantAll depends where you get your torrents. Demonoid is risky, but dont get hugely popular torrents. MMA events you can get it through private trackers. You can get MMA events the following day on Baidu.. If not, PM me, i can give you a private tracker for MMA. Hopefully i have some left heh.
Last time i got one was for downloading Naruto stuff, yes i like naruto :/, but not a big anime fan.. Besides Cowboy Bebop!
They sent less than 5 total… Not sure how long before they shut me off completely, but im not going risk it, no more popular torrents on public trackers!

March 20, 2012 at 10:56 am #17980Rick in ChinaParticipantRE: ‘reroute’ your VPN service?
You must be doing something different than me – I’ve been on the same one for like… since last summer? I only changed because I re-tested various san-fran hosts and this was slightly faster. Also, I use the IP rather than host, if you use your default DNS maybe China blocks a hostname from resolving rather than blocking the actual IP, like StrongVPN.com was blocked but its IP was fine.
For torrents, I use:
TV (including UFC:D) http://eztv.it
Other: http://kat.ph
The torrents should not be downloaded while on VPN, you WILL get DC’d from StrongVPN service if you do. Turn the VPN off or download on a different device than you use for VPN stuff (like I keep an imac off VPN on a desk for downloading/storing torrents, then stream onto this system which does gaming/powers TV). Downloading from eztv and kat.ph – the torrents download fast and queue up, unlike some others which end up not finding any peers from within China. Try ‘er out.
