i might dash through an alley and then lose the time!

ParticipantDont get discouraged Billy, I know how it is when you drop your poetry and everyone is just trying to not look you in the eye. I am not saying that’s what happened here cuz you dropped this late when most people have their eyes closes anyway so we’ll see how it goes tomorrow. I’ma rap battle you right here fool:
The Du The Du The Dirty Dirty Du
Funky like my shoes
in the mornin’
Got fog in my nose
and its borin
into my soul, can’t control, gonna hide in a hole!
Some man outside with a cart
squeakin all loud like a fart
its only him and me
in the Hong Pai Lou (represent yo!)
Droppin low low
Gettin Mo mo
Never fallin off just risin
i cant see the horizon
but its blindin
in the du the du the dirty dirty du

KeymasterPhone Plan
Outside it looks like a vintage photo,
It’s sepia tone,
China Telecom calls and I say,
Leave me alone,
I don’t want to upgrade my phone,
That shit gets expensive.
The Bookworm
At the Bookworm I’m sipping on wine,
Books line the walls,
Outside the streets are covered in grime,
Jazz on the inside,
Coupled with heat it’s feeling divine,
Then I ride my bike.
Hotpot
Tumble weed blows on the forum,
An expression of life in Chengdu,
Write some hotpot poetry for em,
Watch out for that spice,
Your tastebuds and your tongue are foreign,
Don’t forget to order baijiu.

ParticipantLet me pass the mic to the Nasir Jones of this stream of consciousness Chinese street poetry shit… Fred Dintenfass, of the blog 10tonfunk:
Standing in the freezing courtyard of a Daoist temple
listening to Jay Z
mean muggin young peasant extras and feeling bad
drinking Italian coffee out of a tupperware cup covered in stickers
breath hanging in the air like the bags under actresses eyes
Can no longer tell what’s a set and what’s history
Dark sides of meat hanging off the ribs of a panel truck
A corner electronics store offering a shiny display of rice cookers
to a dead street and a bend in the highway
Jackie Chan ad smiling down upon the folly
One child slogans painted on brick walls and houses
mixed with ads for car repair, cell phone stores
Life with one baby is so much better
Those that can afford to have built their own houses
studded with bizarre tile patterns, motley assortments of columns and balconies
a decorator’s catalog thrown into the air
scraped off the floor and shuffled into a floor plan
ample meterage for an Evita-style serenade
The countryside still wriggling in Deng’s embrace
a short man with a long reach
More poems of his can be found here.

Participantoh so now the game just got upped. Eli has to drop some shit and here I go taking on FredNas DistenJones:
I see drool dripping down her cheek
clicks in the background while i adjust my seat
white lights bear down, soft like sleep
killing my will to live as the minutes go on
like a cancer that never shows up
or a comb-over that never gets mentioned
the white elephant in this office space
is the taobao screen and QQ notifications
behind me the Global Center nudges the sludge away sleepily
like a giant caught in the swamps, stretching and finding himself
tied down
time for lunch
cantine or croissants.
Checkin my pennies cuz I’m trying to
get out.

Roses are red
Except in Chengdu
Where they are mostly dead

ParticipantI like the theme of this topic so thought I would try my hand at poetry:
Chengdu at present is a sea of pollution
I am wearing a mask as a short term solution
I wake up some mornings and can’t see a thing
Wait is it the weather or what I had to drink?
P.S I am loving Brendans poem

ParticipantInteresting post! everyone have an artist side, here we can share this! thank you Billy
“Now I’m here, Chengdu caught me
for love, for live, for nothing
I don’t know why…
Many difference from the west of world
sometimes it’s difficult understand
this disarming simplicity
but nice for this!
Maybe we need time, maybe we don’t want
maybe we have too much reason
maybe we feel alone
Find a new way in this crazy life
it’s more is easier to do
but we listen the emotions
and this is important…
Chengdu I’m here
understand me that I miss my country
Italy
Understand me
if my spirit is green Ireland
I’m confused
I’m a people…”

ParticipantOk, separated by planes, trains, and automobiles,
Chengdu is the next spot to slide under my bootheels,
and I’m a blind masseuse, can’t see it but I got a good feel,
got a feijipiao for a few mao, I got a good deal,
a steal, but no, visa man, i am not no crook,
I’m just an eager student, ink on my nose from in a book,
take a look, it’s clear as the sky once used to be,
that Chengdu Sichuan China is the place I got to be.

ParticipantNow I know where all the recycling goes
down a funk street in hongpailou
past the rows of ankle high plastic seats
roundtables and dust covered plastic hats
rough faced workers with mouths full of pigfat
laughing out loud as they chopstick spar
a bowl of pepper dust covered meat and taters
without question no doubt better believe its the best food in China
past the lady in a corner sewing up pants
past the dog on his back biting at some fleas
past the tied up cat yowling out its misery
through a gate into the old powerplant
ruins remind me why i love this place
life amidst the poverty
no ghettos no guns
no hard looks no despair
gales of laughter send the
winter sausages swaying in the window
past a tower sinking into plaster
and metal and plastics and the detritus of a century
where the woman rocks a baby boy next to a pile of stacked old doors
nails face up
waiting to be overloaded on the semi
three men pulling the wires out of a QQ and a fat man eyes me up
rickshaw after rickshaw pull up and drop off scavenged stuff
for the tractor to pick up and pile somewhere else
just when i think how quaint it is, to be broke,
how peaceful the black dog looks curled up
camouflaged
the tractor’s driver hops out
he’s maybe twenty, with an urbanites face
an urbanites pants and and urbanites shoes
he whips out a white iPhone, pops in his headphones,
and hustles past
It still surprises me

Participantluv poetry! let me see……
on pollution in Chengdu:
Skycrapers are dusted in debris
entire Chengdu seems fading away
Some blame it’s the pollution at play
government has its own experts’ say:
“Grill stands are on every street
cooking smoke makes the sky bleek grey.”
January 19, 2013 at 8:16 am #25916Vic
Participanton Chinese history
Some say China has no history
as government has its own his story
Historical records are all documentary
true or false should be all on display
Even propaganda is a two-edged blade
flip-flop demos a typical Chinese way
January 19, 2013 at 8:33 am #25918Vic
Participanton freedom of speech
Freedom of speech is a necessity
we have right on whatever we say
Reality usually could be a bit of ugly
rumors may sometimes get things blurry
Let right or wrong be subjected to debate
no one can cover up truth’s own glory

MemberCan I retract my jokingly bad earlier edition? Some of these are surprisingly good, especially the Fred Dintenfass. Okay, I’ll be back later to get real on all your asses.
