Time to start touring around and was reading the great posts about Mount Emei and Leshan. Have some questions: If I don’t speak Chinese at all, do you think it would be a good idea to go there by myself?(thinking about getting lost, miss the bus stops and the like and not being able to ask for directions :p) if not, do you know any tour agency or group that organizes this type of outings? Is it still a good time in the year to go to Mount Emei?

    Thanks!

I don’t think winter is a good season to go. And if you don’t know any bit of oral Chinese, it will be a problem. There are many agencies provide services to travel there. But Free travel is better, agency travel is just kind of “running to a scenery spot, take picture, and running again.” You can’t feel any leisure during travel, that is opposite to the meaning of travel.

And even worse, if you join a tourist group full of Chinese, normally the guide will take you to at least three shopping spot. If you don’t buy anything, the guide will give face to you (it is directly translated, means that will be impolite to you).

You can find two or three like minded people to go together by yourself. And when it comes to winter, the weather of Chengdu will be mainly raining or cloudy. If you stay in the city without touching nature too long, surely you will feel depressed.

I worked in Chengdu for years. And don’t like Chengdu’s winter too.

If it is my hometown, it is very easy to touch nature. But in Chengdu, hmmm, you have to go out. I am Chinese by the way.

If people would like to form a weekend touching nature group, count me in. Like today is a sunny day, I will go to East Lake(东湖)right now in this afternoon. It is near the second ring road and for the time being, it is not a very crowded place like the people’s park (人民公园)。
