ParticipantHey everybody 🙂
Good to see you all on this forum!! My husband and I plan to move back from BC Canada to Chengdu (I was born in Sichuan). He has never lived in China before, so we plan to live in a small town close to Chengdu. Perhaps Longquan Yi , Pi Xian? Any comment?

KeymasterHe’s going to experience pretty extreme culture shock if you move directly to somewhere like Longquan or Pixian… but of the towns near Chengdu I would choose Flower Town (三圣乡). It’s beautiful and connected to the city via subway.

ModeratorHey! Good question! Why are you moving back to Sichuan?
I’ve been giving thought to moving out of the city myself seeing that the pollution level doesn’t look like it’s going to be radically improving anytime soon, but I have no idea what would work geographically. It doesn’t take long to feel like you’re ‘in the sticks’ heading out of the city, so it’d be good to hear from people living ‘out there’.
Good luck heading back to China.

A few years ago there was a group of expats living in Flower Town, I think around 20+ people at one point, who lived there quite happily. They lived in big houses, tended to gardens, cooked dinner very night, etc. Eventually the group scattered and moved to different places, but now that it’s connected via subway I think living there is a lot more practical than before. Urban sprawl is threatening Flower Town and other small communities on the outskirts of Chengdu though, as old buildings with character and history are being demolished to make room for residential skyscrapers.

ParticipantI have just bought an apartment in Longquan, but have not moved out that way yet. I spend most of my days off in that area. I don’t know of any other Lowai’s out that way. It’s not far from Chengdu only takes me 30mins on my motorbike and the subway will be open next year. You can cycle up the mountains and a nice cycle is to Shipan Lake and Baoshi Lake. Also you have access to loads of local markets. The reason we choose Longquan is because of the cost and environment. You can see the mountains from our apartment and the air quality is much cleaner.

ParticipantDujiangyan’s also a nice bet. Near the mountains, better air, quiet and clean and easy access to Chengdu via the bullet train. Apparently there’s also a few foreigners in the area.

KeymasterI know of an expat who is preparing to move to Qingcheng Shan this year, also. That would be a great place to live – as it turns out there are a handful of universities there also which means local job opportunities. It’s a beautiful place, one of my favorite in China, and like Dujiangyan it’s also accessible via bullet train (the city of Qingcheng Shan, not the actual mountain, although that’s near).

ParticipantThanks for all kindly suggestion !! You guys have been pretty helpful out here:)
The reason we are planning to move back is mostly because of me miss my family and my country 🙁 I have lived in Canada around four years by now , it’s great and beautiful country ! I was blessed to have this four years here, ppl treat me nicely . But I am a family oriented person, as I am getting older each year, start to miss my home more 🙂 I am very lucky to have my husband stand behind me as well, he went to china once, like nothing treacly suprised him 🙂 well, I guess it’s BC is full of Asians :
