Charlie, Its my understanding that you can not legally work on a Business visa. I was reading on another forum that the goverment was cracking down on this practice, especially in Shanghai.

As much as I tried to relocate to Chengdu its just not going to happen. The bottom line is that a Bachelors degree is needed for a working visa. I was told that I can get a business visa and work on it, get a fake degree, or just work on a L visa. I am too old for those shenanigans and just cant risk it.

I envy you guys who get to live there. Chengdu looks like an awesome place to work and live. Unfortunately, I am stuck in this cesspool and near bankrupt place called California. 12% unemployment and a subpar apartment 1 hour away from Los Angeles will run you $900USD.

I will go vist one day and maybe will get to meet you guys and visit over some hotpot.

    Take care,

    AJ

I am looking for a room as well. Is there a website I can look at to find rooms to rent?

    Thanks

Thank you everyone for advice. I have already contacted Shan Shui Visa and hopefully they can help me out or point me in the right direction.

Brendan, I think you’re right and shipping the equipment might be the best way. Need to crunch the numbers and go from there.

Wow, I looked up some equipment on Taobao and the cost on equipment is alomost double of what I paid here in the States. Decisions decisions…

Do you think I would have a problem with the TSA or Customs if I pack some gear in a luggage?

Hey Charlie, thanks for the info. Im still up in the air on if I want to ship my equipment along with some other belongings, or just buy everything new again.

Can someone please post some links to online stores that sell music equipment in China?

    Thanks

    Hi Brendan,

I figured it would cost around that much to ship a crate with equipment to China. I could not find any online music stores that shipped to China, so thats why I created this thread. Perhaps someone can post some online music stores that will ship there.

I’m coming from California and the music I have been producing is hip hop. However, I would like to produce all types of music in the future. I am still learning how to use the all the equipment and DAW.

    What have you been producing?

Jerry, I love tacos, rice and beans, etc. but I love Mexican breakfasts like chilaquiles! Hopefully I can get the ingredients there.

Hi Jerry, I was pretty suprised to see how many Mexican restuarants there are in China. Not sure how authentic they are but atleast there are some there. Actually, there are not that many authentic ones here in the States, lol. Speaking of food, the “hot pot” I keep reading about looks amazing. I think I want that to be my first meal in Chengdu!

Wow Ray, you have been to some nice cities in Mexico! I am embarrassed to say that I have only been to Guadalajara. Its a beautiful city with some nice architecture and great food.

I am glad to hear that I wont suffer from any prejudice there. Im sure that there might be some rude people here and there, but that happens everywhere.

I plan to get my TFL/TESOL certification in order to increase my chances with employment. I also plan to learn Mandarin before I go (I know the dialect is different in Chengdu). Hopefully I can find employment quickly.
