ParticipantWhere do you think my money is going? I’m all about high risk high reward.

ParticipantFor countries where Union Pay is accepted (definitely UK, but not sure where else) you can just mail your card to a friend in that country, get him to take out cash and then deposit it into the necessary bank account. I think there is a limit of some sort, but I have happily transferred RMB10k per day without any questions. Rates depend on the bank, but for BOC it’s very very competitive and in my experience it’s by far the cheapest and fastest way of repatriating funds to the UK.

Participant@Shiya Unfortunately it took me 5 years to arrive at the same conclusion. Then again in 2007 banks were still paying bonuses and actual studying time at my school was limited to a succinct month before finals.

ParticipantCould it be a faux foreign owned place all together? With that many foreign faces milling about behind the bar I guess not but there definitely has to be an ongoing struggle between the Italian and the Chinese management which left that place caught in some sort of a nasty cultural limbo.

ParticipantYou’re totally right, the place is not worth it, though if you get their big pizza which is 270/4~65pp it’s actually manageable and tastes pretty good. Pizzawise, since Le Sud got sinified, Mike’s is the best for price/taste in Chengdu http://www.mikespizzakitchen.com but it’s definitely an American pizza. There’s also grappas in the shopping mall next to ikea which is also somewhat overpriced but to a lesser extent and a couple of other italian places dotted around but nothing to rave about. Not sure if it’s up your alley, but there’s a great Spanish place which i’ve been going to for my Mediterranean fix at least once a week: Parador – Ziwei Dong Lu – great food, good cocktails and well priced.

ParticipantWe drove up in a car in February and it took about 8 hours each way, which includes waiting for 2 hours as the police cleared the debris from crashes, both on the way up and down. The bus that takes you up is ancient so be prepared for breakdowns and general fun en route or you can always team up with somebody and rent a minibus/car!

ParticipantThanks Charlie!

ParticipantHi Isa,
The number works and I got your message but I had a lot of replies so I’m slowly making my way through them. The position is filled for the moment but I will get in touch when anything comes up.
Thanks

ParticipantThanks for the input Rick. By partnership I mean joint venture (because from what I understand, the capital requirements for WFOE are huge) and the fees described above are what the agency quoted to me for setting up the company. As I said, I am trying to hit two rabbits with one stone as I also need to provide 税款收入 to a few clients (visa is the priority though). By my estimates, I’m going to spend around 7-8k on visa related fees + travel, so I would be happy to spend this amount of money on setting up a company anyway.
Maybe my Visa case is special but according to Wang Bin and another agency, the fact that I’m 24 and a recent graduate without the compulsory 5 years of experience behind my belt, means that it’s impossible for me to get anything but an F/L or student visa… They did however say that as a partner and a major contributor in a JV, I am entitled to a residency permit. As for the foreign expert visa, I was going for the 1 year work/residency.
