If a proxy is an option for you, look into SocketPro.
It has split tunneling by default, can control the domains that need to be send through the proxy and traffic normally. It’s faster then any VPN I ever used in China. No buffering on Youtube videos with the Vietnam and Korea servers.

Plenty to choose from. Korea servers seem to work best for me on my China Telecom connection. Some of the servers are optimised for Unicom, Telecom or China Mobile.

Get at the park early in the morning, take the bus all the way up and then walk the boardwalks down (25-30 km of walking possible).
The boardwalks are on the other sides of lakes then the bus/main road.
