MemberIt’s called China Air Quality, and it’s awesome. I don’t know if they have an android app, but the iPhone one is great.

MemberHoly mother of god. That is not good. Hold your breath, man.

MemberFrom what I can tell from the Popup Chinese I found in the iTunes store, seems a little advanced for my lackluster skillz… Popup Chinese it is – for now, at least.
Thanks for the recs, fellas.

MemberAs for “the” payable podcast, do you mean ChinesePod?
It’s not that I’m averse to paying (though I wouldn’t say no to freebies…), it’s just that I don’t want to shell out money on crappy products while I test out five different products, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience and had found a favorite.
Which ones do you use?

Member@elias – I hear you about a nice glass of wine. Throw in a leather-bound book and then things are really cooking! And you can only vote once a day regardless of genre.
@benjaminlee – When we launched the voting page on Monday we discovered that glitch and (thought we) patched it up by the afternoon. Are you still having trouble signing in on the voting page today?
And go ahead – unleash your army of students! Let them wield their trackpads like drone computers. In fact, unleash them on Eli and we’ll solve two problems with one blow!

MemberThe reason we are allowing more than one vote is that we wanted to give people the option of voting for more than one thing. Along the same lines, we also wanted to give people the option of voting more than once for a particular story, but we didn’t want people to just be able to sit there and click on one story twenty times in a row.
Additionally, we’ll be checking the IP addresses every few days to prevent people from cheating and making votes with BS accounts.
As for calling it spam voting, I’m not sure that’s the most accurate characterization, but I do see your point. The final call on who wins will be made by our panel of judges, though, and the writing can certainly “speak for itself” – but it would certainly behoove everyone to try and get their friends to vote for them.

MemberNice dude. Your story “The White Flower” is dope… check it out people, it can be seen on the website.

MemberRecently I’ve been all over Rectified.name. It’s a group blog, and the level of quality is super high. Every post is interesting.
I also like Sinostand, though lately there haven’t been a ton of posts.
There’s also Sascha’s blog, and when he get to firing off posts, that shit can be quite good.

MemberOne week left, people! I want to see smoke coming off those keyboards and notebooks.
Final submission period is next Friday, June 8th. Submit as many things as you want!
James W.
MemberHey Elias,
No problem at all – in fact, we’ve decided to extend the initial submission period until June 8th. So you’ve got plenty of time.
Great idea with the bookworm writing group – actually, one of our judges is Catherine Platt, who I do believe is the coordinator or some such thing with the writing group.
And yes, feel free to submit “Confessions of a White Monkey” if you’d like, and I’m looking forward to reading your fiction.

MemberWoah- just saw this thread for the first time. Crazy. Can’t wait to hear about the whole experience.
I wish I could say I’m surprised that the logic of your average prosecutor is unimpressive….

MemberWield them pens, y’all, wield them pens. I want to see a CL regular rollin’ in dough, laughing maniacally.
James W.
MemberAnd Fitzgerald kicked off his by winning and wearing a full body flamingo outfit.
James W.
MemberNope – you’ve got a bit more time on your hands until the June 1st deadline. Use it well. Looking forward to checking your stuff out. Hopefully you’ve got some pals fiercely wielding the pen as well… Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, I’ve always said.

MemberI think it may differ from city to city, but in Shanghai you can extend L visas twice, at 30 days each time (I’m an American and I did this twice last year).
Technically it’s not an extension – they will cancel your original 90 day L visa and issue a new 30 day L visa, which you can then do one more time. After the following 60 day period, you will have to go to HK (or wherever) to get a new visa. This may put a snag in your plans if your current visa is still good for awhile and you don’t want to have to get a new one. As far as I know, there is no way to extend an L visa without cancelling the current one.
