ParticipantOne of the dishes I tried was a Lamb stew which was really nice. I’ve never been to Africa so I don’t really now much about African food, but I’d be happy to put you in touch with Carlos if you’re interested.

ParticipantHi Ray,
They’re still in their soft opening stage at the moment so the menu is changing a lot. I’ve eaten there 3 times and been impressed with the food so far. The owner Carlos is from Guinea, but the menu has a mixture of foods from various African countries. I’d definitely recommend checking it out, and you’re welcome to come along tonight if you’re free.

ParticipantHopefully see some forum faces at the event tonight!

ParticipantHello Kavin,
Yes, they can tailor coats. The next event could be in February or March. They are based in Beijing.
Michael M
ParticipantThe South has the highest concentration of expats, but the Center and West are pretty good too. If you’re on the metro line in the west that will make transport easier.
Michael M
ParticipantNo problem. Thanks for the support!
Yeah, they do pea coats and other styles, I probably should have promoted that more!

ParticipantThanks to everyone who came along yesterday to the fourth Tailor Made Chengdu Event. The tailors took orders for over 30 Suits, 65 shirts and several winter coats during the day. All orders should be delivered to Chengdu in about 10-15 days time.
We’ll definitely be doing this event again in the near future, so if you didn’t get a chance to come along this time, but are interested in attending in the future let me know and I’ll make sure I keep you informed.

ParticipantYou might have trouble with customs when you arrive in your home country, most countries are pretty sensitive about seeds/saplings. I think partly because of disease but also because of different strains of weeds/GM-modified varieties etc.
I agree that flower town might have what you need, I know Auchan also has some seeds in their small gardening section too.

ParticipantThanks to everyone who came along on Tuesday. Another fun and interesting night for everyone joined us. I’m always too lazy to count, but there were at least 100 people there at the peak of the evening.
We had a fantastic photographer called KB join us this month, you can find all the photos from the event here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/108103101@N02/
KB is a Malaysian working in Chengdu. He does photography and video for all kinds of applications. If you’re impressed with his work you can check out his wesite here or contact through me.
We’re hosting Chengdu Business Connection’s Monthly mixer on the second Tuesday of every month, so put us down on your calender and we look forward to seeing you next month!

ParticipantI heard about this before. Maybe you could convince them to do a ‘Laowai Combo’? Carrots, onions, eggplant, cucumber, spinach etc.
Michael M
ParticipantIf you have a Merchant’s Bank card you can use this to pay at most cinemas (Wanda, Wangfujing, raffles, galleria, all the big malls) and the price is only 30 or 35 yuan.
Michael M
ParticipantWe’ve already got about 20 people signed up for the 24th. If anyone else on the forum is interested in getting some suits or shirts tailor-made then please get in touch as soon as possible to confirm your place.
Michael M
ParticipantLooking forward to this.
Michael M
ParticipantWoodwerd, definitely possible I think. Although I think expats with at least average Chinese skills stand a better chance.
Looking forward to seeing lots of CL forum people at the Pug tonight! If you get lost feel free to call me: 13880577514
Michael M
ParticipantHope to see lots of CL forum members again here on Tuesday.

ParticipantViki and Belle,
I think I speak for most foreigners who choose to live in Chengdu when I say: I like the food, I like the people and I like living here!
The best thing to do if you come across foreigners complaining is ignore them, the same way most foreigners ignore the things they don’t like here. Everywhere has its advantages and disadvantages, negative people will complain when they are in China, at home or anywhere!
I’m from the UK and I often meet Chinese people who have lived there and don’t like it! There’s really no need to be offended. Some people just don’t understand the the joy of living in a new, different and foreign place.
Anyway, if you want to meet some positive, china-loving and cool people in Chengdu, both Chinese and from many other countries. We have a free monthly networking event here in Chengdu, details here: https://chengduliving.com/forum/topic/tuesday-november-12th-chengdu-business-connection-monthly-networking-mixer/ You’re welcome to join!
Michael M
ParticipantGood to hear, Charlie. I’ll be in touch once the venue has been confirmed to book your time slot.
For anyone else interested in attending, feel free to drop me a pm or contact me in the ways listed on the original post!
