ParticipantHey there,
The issue is a bit complex, more so than it was when this was written: Nationality but here are the basics:
Yes, you should go and take your birth certificate to the Consulate and report a birth abroad right away, and get your child a US passport. That doesn’t affect your child’s citizenship in China at all YET, but once you have that passport, then the complexities start. If you want to leave China as an American, then you have to first obtain an exit visa from the PSB, easy process with you and your wife there, and then leave the country, return, and your child will be on a visa.
BUT, the new laws on the books as far as I know them state that ANY child born in China to a Chinese mother is Chinese unless they revoke their citizenship. Now, whether or not you revoke citizenship, whether or not you leave (and under which flag) are all things you should go and check out with the PSB (or a lawyer) first. My experience ws a bit harrowing, but that’s because of my own mistakes and the fact that the law changed in July 2013, thereby changing my boys’ statuses without my knowledge.
If you daughter it looks like, was born here and your wife is Chinese, according to the Chinese, she is a Chinese National. Regardless of what the Chinese think, if you are the father, then the US regards your daughter as a US National. Neither nation is big on dual citizenship really, but the Chinese reject the idea outright. Americans, for the most part, “don’t care.”
Let us know how it goes, and what you learn.

ParticipantThe Holiday Inn, at the top of the hotel, is the round room or whatever. They have the games and they have everything you need. The hotels dude, they are the ones to look for. The Shangri La might have something for you as well.
Sascha
Participantyeah you two need to meet. God, you know i’m in. Let’s do it at your crib weekly? or perhaps a cafe? Stugans?
Sascha
Participantwhy are you selling?
Sascha
ParticipantActually it works fine. My VPN was causing some probs with the site somehow. Who the fuck knows these days, with all of the censor and counter censor BS.
Sascha
ParticipantThe site must be having issues, because the link is still not really working that well. It was working awesome earlier. Sigh. I was really looking forward to some troll/love

Participanthi,
it is not an urban legend, people do it here, but i have no real numbers. most people with the means consider Leman, QSI, the Waldorf School or Chengdu International. The prices are of course a big factor here. Internationally flavored schools are at least 3000RMB a month, and can be much more. Local schools are basically free, with some small costs related to books and other basic fees. And the Chinese language immersion issue is big with people going local. The big drawback is that Chinese themselves feel their edu system is very bad, and foreigners tend to agree. I think finances play a big role, and the specific school you choose.

ParticipantHey I am looking for a bike for a Chinese girl, around 5’6 or so. Do either of these bikes work? if so holler. You know how to find me. I gots ca$hmoney.

ParticipantThe West is not bad at all, you have to see where though, close to Line 2? Close to Line 3 incoming, if you stay that long? Is it within or outside of the Second Ring Road? There are some good spots over there, including the city’s only Metro, which is an awesome spot to stock up a new house.
The landlord thing is not bullshit, it is common to pay three to even six months up front, one month deposit and agency fee. Naturally we all try and get the best deal – no agency fee, three months max up front – but don’t pay for something you haven’t seen yet.

ParticipantI just did the Hong Kong Run, most everyone who applied was denied expedited service, which could get you a visa same day or next day. I applied Tuesday morning early and the quickest was Thursday afternoon. I think that’s as quick as it gets; I am American.

ParticipantToo bad, etsy started out as an UBER HIPSTER gig in Brooklyn, and now is making millions selling DIY hipster shit (and other stuff, now, I see). They have a pretty intense office, there is a story i read in Fortune about them. Good luck swimming with the sharks …

ParticipantAwesome, Hao I am interested as well. I have been to Dachuan and drank green tea there, great place. I was in Hongya, Tianchuan, Mengding, Mingshan … all over Sichuan drinking and selling green tea as well. Would be great to meet up and share some thoughts.

ParticipantI used Jajah forever and they were great, but now they do not allow the same payment options, and their service as dropped off dramatically. I use Google and it works really good. Facetime works good as well.
Sascha
Participantfuck. i just saw this. Still there?
Sascha
ParticipantYes Milanoo, like 90% of Chinese companies out there, copies and cheats. They also received millions from Sequoia, a prominent tech-savvy hedge fund. Working in China is a double-edged sword.
Also, the company is looking for a French-speaker/native for this position
Sascha
ParticipantOk, sorry about the laclk of response, but SURPRISE the people running the show out at Emei weren’t clear on the situation.
They originally said they would pay for foreigners to show up and watch, from the 7th to the 10th. Then they said they would only pay for foreigners who represent different couontries in the Opening Ceremony and alsol fight. Then they said foreigners wouldn’t havbe to fight, they could just do some wushu movements in the wushu contest. Finally, they said no foreigners will be paid for, but anyone who wants to come is welcome.
For those of you new to China, this may seem fucked up, but for those of us who have been around, its just so face-palmingly common.
Also, it seems that the event was shortened to 1 day only, on the 10th, which is a weekend.
I am going for sure, anyone who wants to go with me can call me at 18615773958
I have heard some real horror stories from MMA and wushu foreigners here- delays, postponments, no pay, no hotel, fighting unfair fights in rigged matches withovermatched CHinese etc. Its a fucked up business. If you want to see it first hadn, give me a call

Sascha
