Participant*Laughing my ass off on this thread
When will we see “Chengdu personals”? Nothing wrong if the moderators had censored separate content like Craigslist IMO

ParticipantConsider myself pretty liberal, but refusing entrance to a government building on the grounds that one is not wearing a shirt and shoes seems reasonable…
I guess Walter was wrong:
“Smokey, this is not ‘Nam. This is bowling. There are rules.”

Participant@Danielle – Iron Rooster is my all time fave china travel tale, unparalleled time capsule, when I saw the forum thread that’s exactly the book I was gonna share
Beijing Jeep and Red Dust by Ma Jian are two other interesting 80s china tales, one about the first American car company miserable partnership and an outcast Bohemian’s wandering around China

ParticipantI’m not Chinese, but it’s a great day for America, really proud of Obama’s perseverance despite the Republicans’ never ending “Bullshit Mountain” efforts. He got a lot done in the first 4 years, despite the critics pounding him on the things he didn’t do. History suggests he’ll be able to accomplish even more in the next 4.
As far as the Chinese comments above are concerned, most of them are about as well informed as FOX News. The bottom line is the entire world is much better off with Obama in charge. We’re out of Iraq, Osama is dead, and I firmly believe we’d pull out of Afghanistan if it was plausible. I don’t believe Obama has unilaterally initiated any other wars like his predecessor was/is so famous for.
I’m sure I’ll take some backlash for my comments, but that’s what the forum is for

ParticipantThanks Rick and Diamond for your feedback, I called Guangzhou and Beijing and they seemed to say that I could submit the application and passport through a friend or agency locally. I guess I’d have to put my passport in the mail, is that a bad idea?

ParticipantFall 2011: Team America 7 UK 0 – clean sheet for Rippey
Spring 2012: Team America 11 (11!) UK 3 – the Norwegian did score 4 or 5, but all were in the 2nd half, after the game was out of reach (obviously)
Did Deportivo Wanka manage to sign up Nick Day? If you didn’t get him and let Alan slip right through your fingers, I can’t see much hope for the Wankas….

ParticipantThx for all the varied feedback, I went a few nights ago and 6 of us ate to our hearts’ content. Food was unusual in terms of comparison to middle eastern fare I’ve eaten before, but overall good. I thought the decor was alright, bits of room for improvement exist all around, but I’d go back, especially if they start up a menu.

ParticipantI’ve gone to a spot in Yulin to get pants for work tailor-made, specifically decent looking light cotton pants that I can wear to the office in the sweaty summer. I wouldn’t really recommend a foreigner to get a suit there tho, not that I ever have. I’m just not sure how in tune they really would be for western suit styles and cuts. Anyways, if you’re interested, send me a message

Participanttotally depends on the kind of bike, but for a simple 1 speed bike, which is all you need in Chengdu, you should be able to find a used bike (stolen or not) for 100-200 RMB

Participant@Ray/Charlie, so any regular Bank of China ATM card works at Citibank ATMs in the US? Or do I need to take care of a separate formality at a Bank of China? What is the fee for a cash withdrawal when you use the ATM in the US?
cheers
