ParticipantHey Brian, yeah close to American Gardens. If you look at a map 国防乐园 guofan leyuan is on 新园大道 xinyuan dadao and that T’s with 锦城大道 jincheng dadao, the park is at the T intersection, can’t miss it. When facing the park on the right there are some fake “ski” hills and if you head in and left you will find the entrance to the bike park. Not sure if anyone is there tomorrow but you might be able to just roll back and take a look.

ParticipantThis is cool! I went out there two weeks ago and had a look around. They have built some big drops and jumps out there as well. If anyone is interested in mountain bikes or riding it is worth checking out as it is the only place I know close enough to Chengdu for an afternoon or evening ride. The guy behind most of the building is also a super nice guy and has been working hard on the area so it would be cool for him to get some support. If you do go out keep in mind that the place is not completed yet so there is a lot more to come. By the way it is the same place as that the artificial skiing thread was about.

ParticipantCan’t comment on Cambodia but got a 6 month F visa in Hanoi in January. Others were getting tourist visas. The staff at the consulate was incredibly rude and didn’t seem happy to give visas but were doing it.

ParticipantHey guys-
Bummer to hear you got hurt Lino. Rest up. If you guys haven’t figured out where this place is yet it’s at the far south of XinYuan DaDao 新园大道。If you are heading out of Chengdu going south you will go south on 新园大道, 国防乐园 will be on your left. 新园大道 hits a T intersection with 锦城大道。The “extreme sports” park is straight in front on the opposite side of the intersection, can’t miss it.
They actually have a mountain bike park out behind the main office that is currently being built (reason I went out there yesterday). Has a lot of potential. The “ski” hills don’t look much like skiing but should be a ridiculous good time. Have fun!

ParticipantI’m pretty sure I rode by this place on my bike about 3 weeks ago. It’s just kind on the side of the road out near 国防乐园. Can’t remember the exact road. Anyhow it is the “American Extreme Sports Park” or something like that according to the signs. It didn’t look open at the time. According to the paintings on the wall around it they offer other extreme sports like rollerblading and doing wheelies on road bikes. If I get a chance I’ll ride back out that way in the next week and then post the exact road it was on.

ParticipantOh man an Alley Cat! Will definitely be there although maybe a little late because of work. Might be gunning pretty hard for that DFL.

ParticipantCool man! Thanks a bunch. Will do some ordering later this week.

ParticipantHey guys-
Don’t go out much but it would be nice to come out and meet some of you guys. Do you have a time you plan on going, eating dinner there? Look forward to meeting up.

Participant@Jerry thanks man! Super helpful. Will start looking around, figured TaoBao was the place to go.
Exercise balls are a bit new age 🙂 I actually hurt my back in a bad mountain bike crash a long time ago and my physical therapist had me use one for rehab/strengthening. Did wonders for core strength and balance. Thinking it would be good to start using again one again.
That pull up/dip station is out of my price range for now but I could see that being awesome.
I actually have a really big studio so it will be bedroom/living room/gym in one!
Thanks again!

Participant@JerryS Where did your purchase your equipment for your home gym? I’m thinking of setting up something like that at my place. Specifically looking for resistance bands, exercise ball, and possible some kettlebells.

Participant@Vincent NL, yes definitely a small side street on the north side of the bridge on the east side of first ring road. If you go there to the corner of first ring road and ShunJiang Lu (顺江路) by the pedestrian overpass someone is certain to ask you if you want to buy a bike (买车、mai che). They will take you down a little alley away from first ring road and there are a ton of small “shops” i.e. rooms with bikes for sale. Shop around (more than one room) and bargain hard.

ParticipantCool you got a cross bike. Will be perfect for riding around here and exploring some of the more beat up roads and stuff. Do you race any cross back home? Nothing out in Chengdu that I know of but Shanghai area does have a small cross series. There are plenty of knock-off parts, so much that buying illegal genuine parts could be a real time drain sorting through all of the fake stuff as well. I’ve never really tried, I would think the coastal cities would be easier for that since that is where the stuff is made, not in Chengdu.

ParticipantHey cool to see this post. Definitely a lot of riding around Chengdu both mountain and road. Here are a few answers:
–Not really. I mostly do my own wrenching. If you aren’t a very experienced mechanic maybe PM me or something. I wouldn’t trust most shops here with my bikes.
–Kind of same as above, there are some but there spare parts are generally limited (tubes, cables, brake pads are no problem). taobao.com is usually the best bet for other stuff.
–Not that I know of but I am sure there are some. There are enough people riding here that there must be although probably more road oriented than mountain. Or riding mountain bikes on the road, that seems to be most popular.
–There are trails outside the city in the hills and farmland. Usually to ride them it is a whole day out of the city so if I have a day I ride my mountain bike if I only have a morning or afternoon I just do a road ride near the city. If you get to Chengdu and want to ride some trails PM me and we can set up a time to ride.
–Yes and no. The south seems to be better and they are building some out near 3rd ring road in the southeast. It’s usually best to get out of the city and ride countryside roads which is pretty easy to do. Bring heavier wheels/tires, I run old OpenPro rims and 25 hard-case tires.
Hope that helps. Would also like to hear from other people about there experiences.
